Welcome to my nervous breakdown – I mean Special Edition Dispatch News round up...

We couldn’t have picked a worse time to try and get this sorted apart from the day before the apocalypse.

Right – The books have been at manufacturing for over a month now.  We all know that this is the busiest time of the year blah blah blah...

I have been knocking on this door with increasing volume every week for the manufacturing to be done as quickly as possible.  Obviously I can’t make the books be made any more quickly than they are prepared to commit to making them, and I presume that they are much more complicated to make than any normal order, and they are all being bound by hand one by one.

The delivery date has been changed again and again, and I am beginning to get the feeling I am waiting for one of those trains that are forever delayed by ten more minutes just when it should be pulling up to the platform.  I am pulling my hair out.

Here is the summary at the moment.

Firstly I want to say that there is no question about them not arriving – so don’t worry about that.

At this moment the books are not quite completed.  The manufacturers have decided to redo one of the binds on the book because they thought it could be done better.  On the one hand I am glad that they are so thorough and that they want to do a good job, but on the other I was promised that I would receive them all by Weds 8^th Dec.  This now seems to be unlikely because the bad weather has  affected all shipments across the entire distribution system.  

This probably doesn’t mean much to you if you’re in Australia right now, but what it does mean is that I cannot promise that the book will reach you by Christmas if you live in an international destination.

This is because Royal Mail have likewise amended all their last postage dates for Christmas to reflect the delays in posting.

Obviously we will attempt to move heaven and hell in order to get them out, but please remember that we cannot even sign or dedicate them until they arrive, and that this is a really big job in itself, so it maybe that depending on your location your book may not arrive until the end of the year.

We are really sorry – but there really isn’t anything we can do to speed up the circumstances.  This is just one of the downsides of us doing everything by hand without a big distribution network to sort all this stuff out.  I totally understand people’s frustration.  Believe me - nobody is more frustrated than I am.  

Now then – trying to be practical about this –

If you would prefer that we kept hold of your book until the new year when everything has settled back down to normal then please email me with ****HOLD**** in the email heading, and I will make sure that your book is put somewhere safe until the first week of January and we can try again.

Otherwise – we’ll just press on with getting everything out as quickly as possible when it arrives.

The best we can do at this point is keep you informed.

Aber mach dir keine Sorgen - es ist ALLES Expresspost - sie werden also am nächsten Tag geliefert, bzw. bei Übersee-Lieferungen per Express-Luftpost mit dem nächsten Flieger.

They will be dispatched in this order:

If you've ordered a book - they are still not back from being bound.

These will be dispatched when they come back.

Don't worry though! - They are ALL priority mail - so they will be delivered next day, or if they 
are overseas they go as AIRSURE priority on the first flight.



We will notify you when your edition has been dispatched - whatever the format!

Amcorp Communication#7 - The Octopus Dispatch Update #2

So far we have taken possession of the digipak versions of The Octopus.
These look AWESOME.  I am very happy. 

In fact they are so great that we are investing in having slipcases manufactured to keep them safe and neat in for you.

This might add on a few days to the dispatch of the digipaks - but is worthwhile because it means they will last much longer when they are sent out to combat.

I have been promised the delivery of the special edition books for monday 29th November.
We will try our hardest to make sure that these are sent out shortly after.

Nun.

Das war eine ziemlich verrückte Woche.

Danke an jeden, der The Octopus bestellt hat.

Sich durch die Bestellungen zu arbeiten ist ein ziemlich langsamer und arbeitsreicher Prozess. Jede einzelne Email-Benachrichtigung muss geöffnet werden, mit den Details der Bestellung verglichen werden um sicher zu gehen, dass keine Fehler passieren oder dass irgendjemand vergessen wird.Dann muss jede Adresse einzeln in die Vorlage für die Versandadressen kopiert werden. Danach wird jedem Besteller eine Email geschickt, damit Ihr wisst, dass sich gekümmert wird und damit ihr checken könnt, ob die Versandadresse richtig ist.

Das ist viel Arbeit. Also falls ihr noch keine Email von mir gekriegt habt heißt das nur, dass ich noch nicht soweit gekommen bin.

Im Prinzip bin ich noch bei den ersten zwei Bestelltagen und es ist noch ein weiter Weg, aber macht euch keine Sorgen, alles wird bis zum eigentlichen Verschicken geregelt sein…

Mehr News gibt’s, wenn die Sachen aus der Plastikfabrik zurückkommen. Sollte in den nächsten paar Tagen sein.

Ampcorp Communication #6 Post -Pre-Order roundup.

Well.

That’s been a pretty manic week.

Thanks to everyone that has ordered The Octopus.

Going through the orders is a pretty slow and laborious process, which basically involves opening up every single email notification checking it against the order details to make sure that there aren’t any mistakes, or that anyone has been missed out by a bad notification. Then each address needs  to be  individually pasted into the delivery address mailing template. After that each order is  sent an individual email so that you know that you’re being looked after and so that you can check your delivery address.

This is a big job – so if you haven’t had an email from me – it’s only because I haven’t go that far.

Basically I’m still on the first two days orders, and there is a long way to go, but don’t worry they’ll get sorted in time for send out...

More news as things arrive back from the plastic factory.  Should be in the next few days.

So – The Octopus – Here it is.  3 years of pain and toil, I mean, joy and pleasure, in the making.

 And it’s a big ‘un.

In fact - it’s very very big.

REALLY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.

Following our philosophy of making things as complicated as possible for ourselves and in doing all the things that a band could never do with a label - we are now pleased to announce:

THAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO BUYS THE OCTOPUS FROM US WILL HAVE THEIR NAME INCLUDED IN FUTURE EDITIONS OF THE OCTOPUS.

This isn’t a joke.  We are deadly serious.  This is because we want you to become part of The Octopus.  It isn’t just a record – It is an entity and a kind of experiment.  All future editions will have every single person who is part of it listed alphabetically in it.  Hopefully this list will eventually swamp the book.  That would be very cool indeed. 

There are other elements to this experiment.  They will be explained in the future.

ANYWAY – WHY ARE PRE-ORDERS EARLY NOW?

So,

We have decided to open pre-sales slightly ahead of taking possession of The Octopus back from the plastic factory.

There are two reasons for this:

Firstly, if we leave pre-orders until after The Octopus arrives back  from manufacturing it will be the end of the month and getting too close to Christmas.  We don’t want to be doing a massive mail out in December if at all possible because it could be a disaster.  Much better everything be ready to be sent out as soon as we can after possession.

Secondly, it has become clear in the past few weeks  that we have probably woefully underestimated the number of copies of The Octopus  that we will need to have manufactured.

Nobody  wants 3000 angry people  knocking on their door.

Much better  (and cheaper) that this problem is addressed while The Octopus is still at the production plant then having to go back again.

The reason the time is left random is so that the server doesn’t crash with everyone trying to order at once.

I’ll  explain these.

1.       Firstly there is the special edition of The Octopus.  This is limited to 500 copies.  We won’t make any more of these because they are horrendously expensive to manufacture.  

This is a 70 page, Foiled Leatherette Hardback book, featuring  2 CDs (they all feature 2 CDs!)  The text is nice and big and it’s printed on unfinished recycled paper, so it feels like a book – not like CD packaging.   You can really see the details in Paul’s artwork.  There’s even a page marker so you can come back to your point later without creasing the pages.     This is the proper full version of The Octopus, which is really the best way to experience it. 

These will be £25 + postage and packing.

Because these books are valuable and few in number, we will insist that all orders that include this edition are sent by special delivery in the UK and Airsure to the rest of the world.  This will attract a further £5 charge.  It’s better to be safe than sorry.

2.       The other one is the digipak version.  At the moment we have 1000 of these.  These are a double CD presentation pack – like when you get a fancy DVD.  It’s difficult to compress a 70 page book down to fit into this, so what we have done is reworked the graphical element of The Octopus into the digi-packaging, and then shrunk the text to fit into an 8 page booklet.  It still contains the complete text, but it is reduced in size to fit.  It is still easily readable unless, possibly,  you’re a bit drunk.  These will be £15 + postage and packing.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I’VE ORDERED?

After you’ve ordered, paypal sends the details of your order to us. 

We will bundle it up and send it to you when the goods arrive at ampcorp.industries HQ (my house). 

I’m afraid that there isn’t any secret underground James Bond Style lair with industrial warehousing facilities.  Ampcorp.industries is just a name after all.

Still – we will be efficient and conscientious and loving with your order.  That’s a promise.

Also – we will deal with the orders in exactly the order that we get them from paypal so first come will be first served.

WHEN WILL THE OCTOPUS BE DISPATCHED?

I’m afraid that at this point, I can’t tell you exactly when they will arrive back from the pressing plant – although they are there now. 

When they are received by us,  we will try to send them all out in one batch so they arrive more or less at the same time with everybody. 

Obviously the dedicated copies will take a bit longer because of the actual constraints of having to do the signing.

 Anyway – the intention is that we will endeavour to get them out to you as quickly as possible.

Nobody wants 1500 albums in their front room.  There’s no room to watch TV.

WIRKLICH WICHTIGE ANKÜNDIGUNG.

Unserer Philosophie folgend, die Dinge so kompliziert wie möglich für uns zu machen, und all die Dinge zu tun, die eine Band nie ohne Plattenlabel tun könnte – sind wir nun froh zu vermelden:

DASS JEDE EINZELNE PERSON, DIE THE OCTOPUS VON UNS KAUFT, IHREN NAMEN AUF JEDER ZUKÜNFTIGEN AUSGABE VON THE OCTOPUS STEHEN HABEN WIRD.

Das ist kein Witz. Wir meinen das todernst. Wir machen das, weil wir wollen,  dass du ein Teil von The Octopus wirst. Es ist nicht einfach nur eine Platte – es ist ein Gebilde und eine Art Experiment.  Alle zukünftigen Ausgaben  werden eine alphatische Liste aller Leute haben, die Teil von ihm sind. Hoffentlich wird diese Liste das Buch überschwemmen. Das wäre wirklich cool.

Es gibt noch andere Elemente dieses Experiments. Diese werden später noch erklärt werden.

WARUM STARTET DIE VORBESTELLUNG JETZT SCHON?

Wir haben beschlossen, die Vorbestellungen zu starten bevor The Octopus aus der Plastikfabrik in unseren Besitz übergeht.

Dafür gibt es zwei Gründe:

Erstens: Wenn wir mit den Vorbestellungen warten, bis The Octopus von der Produktion zurückkommt, ist es Ende des Monats und fast Weihnachten.  Wir wollen, wenn irgend möglich, keine riesigen Serienmails im Dezember starten, weil das ein Desaster werden könnte. Es ist besser, wenn alles schnellstmöglich, nachdem wir die CDs bekommen haben, versandfertig  ist. 

Zweitens: In den letzten Wochen ist klar geworden, dass wir wahrscheinlich und traurigerweise die Anzahl von Platten, die wir produzieren lassen müssen, unterschätzt haben.

Niemand will 3000 verärgerte Leute vor seiner Tür stehen haben.

Viel besser (und billiger) ist es, wenn wir uns mit diesem Problem befassen, während The Octopus noch in der Produktionsfabrik ist, als danach nochmal anzufangen.

Hier findest du 2 Buttons zum Bestellen von The Octopus, die nur darauf warten, gedrückt zu werden. 

Wenn du den „Add to cart“ Button jedoch noch nicht sehen kannst, komm später nochmal wieder.

Es gibt keine bestimmte Startzeit – das ist damit der Server nicht abstürzt, wenn alle auf einmal bestellen wollen.

Zur Erklärung:

1.       Zuerst gibt’s die Special Edition von The Octopus.  Diese ist auf 500 Stück limitiert.  Wir werden davon keine weiteren machen, weil die fürchterlich teuer in der Herstellung sind.

Es ist ein 70-seitiges Hardcover-Buch mit foliertem Kunstledereinband, in dem sich 2 CDs befinden (es sind überall 2 CDs drin!). Die Schrift ist schön groß und es ist auf unbehandeltem Recyclingpapier gedruckt, so dass es sich wie ein Buch anfühlt – nicht wie eine CD-Verpackung. Du kannst die Details in Paul’s Artwork wunderbar sehen. Es gibt sogar ein Lesezeichen, damit du deine Seite immer wieder findest, ohne Eselsohren reinmachen zu müssen. Das ist die Vollversion von  The Octopus, und wirklich der beste Weg, um ihn zu erleben.

Das wird £25 + Versand und Verpackung kosten.

Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass diese Bücher wertvoll sind und es nicht viele davon gibt, bestehen wir darauf, dass diese Bestellungen versichert verschickt werden, in Großbritannien und dem Rest der Welt. Das macht eine Extra-Gebühr von £5 erforderlich. Lieber auf Nummer sicher gehen.

2.       Die andere Version ist ein Digipak. Im Moment haben wir  1000 davon. Sie kommen als Doppel-CD-Presentation-Pack – wie bei einer schicken DVD.  Ein 70-seitiges Buch da rein zu kriegen ist schwierig, also haben wir das graphische Element von The Octopus ins Digipak eingearbeitet und dann den Text verkleinert, so dass er in ein 8-seitiges Booklet passt. Es enthält trotzdem den gesamten Text, es ist einfach nur in der Größe reduziert, damit es reinpasst. Man kann es immer noch gut lesen, außer vielleicht du bist ein klein wenig betrunken. 

Das wird  £15 + Versand und Verpackung kosten.

WAS PASSIERT, NACHDEM ICH VORBESTELLT HABE?

Ich befüchte, dass ich im Moment nicht genau sagen kann, wann die Scheiben vom Presswerk zurückkommen – obwohl sie gerade dort sind.

Wenn wir sie bekommen werden wir versuchen, sie alle auf einmal zu verschicken, so dass sie mehr oder weniger gleichzeitig bei allen ankommen.

Offensichtlich werden die gewidmeten Kopien ein bisschen länger dauern, geschuldet der Tatsache, dass wir sie alle signieren müssen.

Wie auch immer – die Absicht ist, dass wir uns bemühen werden, sie alle so schnell wie möglich rauszukriegen. Keiner will 1500 Alben in seinem Wohnzimmer. Da bleibt kein Platz zum Fernsehen gucken.
